US Census 2010 Address Canvassing - In the Neighborhood The U.S. Census workers are visiting our area to identify the addresses of all housing units for the United States 2010 Census. It's Safe, Easy and Important. Approximately 140,000 census workers, hired from within each local community, will cover most neighborhoods to identify each residential address. This will help ensure everyone residing in the United States receives a 2010 Census questionnaire. History of the Fire Island Lighthouse Fire Island Light was an important landmark for transatlantic ships coming into New York Harbor at the turn of the last century. For many European immigrants, the Fire Island Light was their first sight of land upon arrival in America. The first lighthouse built on Fire Island was completed in 1826. The Babylon Breast Cancer Coalition has developed a program called "Lend a Helping Hand". It's purpose is to offer help to a woman diagnosed with breast or gynecological cancer. We know that this disease can throw a person's life into a tailspin. Taking care of the family, home, job and any other responsibilities can become difficult.
